    Ebony & Ivory

So no actual ebony, the darkstars are about as close to ebony as it's gonna get for this bass. Man does it feel good to play a Lakland HoBo again, and those Darkstars...whooo-eee son!

I've asked Leo, but no response. The bass actually has no SN on the headstock, but I received it from the original owner who bought it on 2000. Given the time frame, the lack of SN, and the missing logo on the HS, I think this was one of the first ones built.

First gig report! She's heavy, but there's plenty of rock tone to be found too! During the receiving inspection there were a few problems: The neck pickup fell off of the beauty ring, and one of the bridge pickup magnets was loose in the electronics cavity. Unfortunate, but I put them back in their places with minimal effort and all seems OK. I wasn't sure I wanted to actually play it on a gig first, but that's really the best way to find out if it's going to work or not. It's definitely got a great tone. Whether I keep it or not will depend on how it plays out over the next few months. The weight is an issue, but I'll pick up a super padded strap and see if that helps.

Guess much does she weigh? I would not think a hobo would be too heavy

In the field is the true test - hope things work out. Surprized about the weight - mine is 7.6 lbs.

    Yeah, I was surprised too. 10 lb, she's a porker...heavier than my 5-string!

This what I was expecting. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this was a very early bass. It's really heavy, there's no SN, there's no "co-designed with Michael Tobias" anywhere on it. If only Leo would answer me back, we might know something.
