    The Liquid Thread

This topic pseudo-derailed the TB LOG thread for a while, so why not give it a home. Let's talk favorite liquids, wine and beers excluded. Post your favorite liquid luxuries and mixes, and if pictures are permitted, show what you got!

I started drinking later in life than most (~28) so I bypassed the "drink whatever is in this Solo cup" stage and went straight to trying "nicer" beverages. I started experimenting with Scotch and Whiskey about 1.5 years ago and I'm enjoying the adventure. I started by sampling pints of various labels where available and then got a larger bottle if I found something I liked.

I really like smooth-finishing scotch and whiskey, but I suppose that my tastes will mature over time, much as they did with beer. I prefer mine neat, though sometimes I'll throw in a few frozen soapstone cubes.

    Current Cabinet:
    Johnny Walker Double Black (scotch)
    Scapa single malt (scotch)
    Crown XR (Whiskey)
Four Roses Small Batch (straight bourbon)
Orphan Barrel Old Blowhard 26yr (straight bourbon)
    Hennessy VS (cognac)
    Captain Morgan Private Stock (rum)

I tend to enjoy beers more than liquors, but a shot or two on a special day has crossed my lips over the years. On tap is always preferred...never in a can!

    Domestic
    Allagash - Black
    Yuengling - Black & Tan
I find microbrews to be a hit or miss

    Imports
    Guinness
    Harp
    Grolsch
almost anything from Poland or Germany will do nicely

Scotches put in a Sherry cask tend to be pretty smooth.....several do that.

Unfortunately the FDA only allows the use of brand new barrels in the USA...so you will never see a Bourbon in any other cask.....i think that would add a dimension or 2.

However....we do ship our Bourbon barrels to be used by scotch sherry and wine makers abroad....does not seem fair .

Staples (pretty much always in the cabinet):

    Makers mark bourbon
46 bourbon ( made by makers)
Macallan 12 year ( good every day scotch)
    Jack Daniel's Bourbon
    Hendricks gin
    Bombay sapphire gin
    Letherebee gin (new addition)
Malibu rum ( for my wife)
Grand marinier ( for my Manhattan's)
    Templeton rye

A variety of mixers such as dry and sweet vermouth, various bitters flavors ( orange and chocolate at the moment), etc

Other stuff I "really like" and rotate due to cost etc:

    Talisker Scotch
    Macallan 15 or18
    Redemption rye
Jameson special reserve ( some times...not a huge Irish fan)
Talemore dew. ( a decent Irish whiskey introduced to me by an Irish logger)
Other Bourbons or scotches that I find ....
